U.S Bureau Orders San Francisco Brewery to End CBD Beer Production

Posted on 30-May-2018

San Francisco brewery, Black Hammer Brewing successfully created a niche for themselves by brewing beer with cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis and hemp plants.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the U.S Alcohol and Tax Bureau ordered Black Hammer Brewing to stop making beer that infuses cannabidiol. They will be allowed to finish selling the remaining inventory with CBD infused beer. Though you cannot get high from CBD infused beer, Black Hammer Brewing is being forced to halt its production because the Trade Bureau "requires special approval for non-standard beer ingredients.”

Black Hammer Brewing owners are applying for permission to use hemp and terpenes in their beer.

Per a Facebook post, Black Hammer states “We've ceased production to comply with Federal statutes, but we are pouring the last of our CBD beer, the only CBD beer in California, starting at 4:20pm, Thursday." The posts also states, “Each one will be served until it’s gone (stay tuned to instagram for updates), and a new variety will be tapped each Tuesday at 4:20pm.”

Hopefully Black Hammer receives permission and can continue production.
