Posted on 08-May-2018

Marijuana has numerous cannabinoids that interact with your body’s system. Some of them, such as THC, induce euphoric effects in you, but weed isn’t the only thing that brings about the feeling of being “high”. Many things from exercise to eating can deliver similar sensations. Here are three other things that can mimic your favorite bud.

Catnip

Catnip, or Nepeta cataria from the genus Nepeta, is a species of plant that’s commonly used in cooking and brewing herbal teas. It’s also what they create Catnip out of which makes cats go crazy! An essential oil called nepetalactone that’s found in the stems and leaves of the Nepeta plant has effects on cats. The plant’s scent activates the receptors in a cat’s brain that respond to pleasurable pheromones, while eating it brings mellow effects.

Running

Getting high off of running actually is a thing! Associated with the release of hormones that function as “pleasant painkillers.”

Researchers had some lab mice run on a wheel, and noticed an increase in endorphins and endocannabinoids after their run. The mice were less anxious and tolerated pain better. The mice acted less anxious and were better able to tolerate pain.

Love

When love happens, it gets you really high! Higher levels of oxytocin can release anandamide, which takes the role in generating motivation and pleasure. Oxytocin is a hormone that plays a crucial role in social bonding, sexual attraction and reproduction, childbirth, and mother-baby bonding.
