Jobs should focus on skill and not simplistic drug tests

Posted on 29-Oct-2017

Drug tests and cannabis use are often used in correlation during debates and discussions regarding the plant. Although marijuana is legal, either medically or recreationally, in several of the United States, there are still very few rules and regulations that revolve around drug testing in the workplace. Until workers are no longer tested for marijuana, the demand for drug tests will continue to drive a big market in this sector. I think the idea of legalizing marijuana, but then allow companies to penalize those who use legalized cannabis is very backwards. When will we finally come to the understanding that cannabis should not be associated with things such as alcohol, cocaine and other serious and harmful drugs. If someone is using cannabis for medical purposes, drug tests that detect cannabis in their system should not be used to unemploy or remove people from the job pool. I believe jobs should start using more common sense, because the person who uses medical cannabis for their back pains may just be the same person who could take your company to the next level. You would never find out though, because your drug tests will remove him from the pool before he even gets a chance to swim.
