California is considered a utopia for those interested in the weed market. While cannabis-related companies prosper in the California sun, raids by the feds have reminded California that the state still has a problem with illegal movements concerning the weed market.
At the beginning of April, the feds took to the Sacramento region to raid 74 houses. They also filed civil forfeiture against over 100 properties. The U.S. Attorney for Eastern District of California said that these arrests and raids targeted an organized black market cannabis network within California.
This network investigated has involvement with millions of dollars transferred to foreign countries like China, big purchases of real estate within California for the sake of illegal cultivation. The feds and local authorities also linked these sales to distributors on the East Coast, where weed is illegal in most states.
Authorities believe these networks and illegal chains implemented in California leads to escalated crime rates and the destruction of community. This latest raid garnered over 60,000 plants, 400 pounds of cannabis flower, along with guns and cash.
Who knows if the authorities will be able to completely crack down on the illegal activity happening within the borders of California? While California has legalized marijuana, those who operated illegally within the weed market find no insensitive in moving forward in a legal way under the many laws and regulations that the state has set up. Till things resolve, we will see more raids and crackdowns.
